Our high quality honey producing, winter hardy queens are carefully chosen based on selective characteristics. Specifically: Winter hardiness - ability to survive the long cold winter in strength Fast build up - hive grows quickly in numbers once brooding begins in spring Heavy honey producers - hives are monitored in the previous seasons for the highest honey yield Temperament - hives that are strong to protect from robbing but not aggressive toward beekeepers Cleanliness - low mite counts and hives kept clean Among other characteristics considered but these are the most important ones selected for our breeding stock.
